This week, there was unrest over the Russian presidential palace in Moscow as two drones reportedly violated the airspace. This makes the monitoring and optimization of airspace even more critical. High-tech companies such as Star Navigation Systems are taking action precisely where Moscow seems to be cutting corners a little too much. Thanks to modern technology, real-time data can be analyzed, and responses can be made accordingly. High-tech also requires the necessary chip and cloud technologies. Investors were thus able to follow AMD's first results this year with excitement. Are they really ahead of their competitor NVIDIA? The latter company finds its use in the new partnership between FREYR Battery and Siemens.

AMD - Q1 figures show slight growth

AMD released its Q1 2023 figures, reporting revenue of EUR 4.8 billion. The gross margin was an impressive 44%, while the operating loss was EUR 131.3 million, and the net loss was EUR 125.8 million. The diluted loss per share was EUR 0.08.

On a non-GAAP basis, however, AMD (ISIN US0079031078) presented even better results: Gross margin reached 50%, operating income was EUR 996.2 billion, net income was EUR 878.3 million, and diluted earnings per share were EUR 0.54. Strong results that underscore the strength of AMD's business model.

Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, emphasized that the Company delivered an outstanding performance in the first quarter despite fluctuating demand, with both revenue and profit growth exceeding expectations. The introduction of several leading products, as well as significant progress in the implementation of the AI roadmap and collaboration with customers, were key factors in this success. Jean Hu, EVP, CFO and Treasurer of AMD, explained that the key Data Centre and Embedded businesses were responsible for more than half of the revenue in Q1.

For Q2, the Company expects growth to increase in the Data Centre and Client segments, while it will see a slight decline in the Gaming and Embedded segments. Nevertheless, AMD is confident about growth in the second half of the year as the PC and server markets recover and new products come to market.

FREYR Battery: Strategic partnership with Siemens

Siemens and FREYR Battery (ISIN LU2360697374) have joined forces and entered into a strategic partnership. The two companies have decided to invest in automation and digitalization technology jointly. Siemens will be FREYR's preferred supplier and will equip FREYR's planned gigafactories in Norway and the US with the latest Siemens software, Industrial Operations X. By using this software, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, FREYR will be able to realize its gigafactories faster and more effectively. This will increase the availability of affordable and high-performance EV battery solutions and energy storage systems.

Tom Einar Jensen, CEO and co-founder of FREYR Battery, expressed his delight at the collaboration with Siemens - an international company that shares the same goals as FREYR Battery: to develop sustainable and efficient battery solutions on a large scale and at a fast pace. Siemens' strategic decision to invest in battery production follows successful partnerships with leading companies such as NVIDIA.

For the next generation of FREYR factories, a cloud-based digital twin was created using AWS IoT TwinMaker and presented at the Hannover Fair in a customized Siemens application on the NVIDIA Omniverse platform.

Russian media claim Ukraine attacked Moscow's presidential palace with drones. It is still being determined whether this is true. Star Navigation Systems proves how valuable airspace security is in these times. Investors are invited to join the Company's live presentation on May 10 2023 - register here.

For FREYR Battery, strong partners are an important step in expanding its global network. Cedrik Neike, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, says: "Speed, size, sustainability: that is what battery manufacturers need. And our customers get that better from Siemens than anywhere else. With the FREYR Battery partnership, we are underlining our position as a top partner for battery manufacturers worldwide." The extent to which NVIDIA will compete with the chip manufacturer AMD will become clear in the coming months, especially concerning the AI and gaming market.

Shiny, silvery antimony has become a central element of the Western security architecture. China's export restrictions, which culminated in a targeted export ban on the US in 2024, forced Western supply chains to realign. Securing domestic supplies has thus become imperative, overshadowing short-term cost considerations. While defense giants like Lockheed Martin are desperately searching for reliable sources to maintain production of modern defense systems and mining companies like Rio Tinto are investing in processing capacity, specialized antimony companies are coming into focus. Antimony Resources is advancing the development of the Bald Hill project in New Brunswick, which is considered one of the most significant future antimony sources in North America. The company offers investors direct access to a market where small companies are becoming indispensable partners to industry, presenting significant opportunities for investors.

Wars and the shifting of power blocs are driving major changes across many industries. Technological breakthroughs and visionary ideas are already beginning to take shape. In this context, the element tungsten is becoming increasingly important. With the highest melting point of any metal at 3,422 °C, a density nearly equal to that of gold, and exceptional hardness, this material is largely irreplaceable in metalworking, the defense industry, semiconductor manufacturing, and, more recently, nuclear fusion. For a long time, the global market for tungsten was dominated by China, which controlled over 80% of mine production and nearly 70% of processing capacity. But this era ended abruptly when the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced strict export controls on 25 strategic metals, including tungsten, in February of last year. At the same time, the so-called REEShore Act came into effect in the US, strictly prohibiting the use of Chinese tungsten in military equipment starting in 2027. In its report "Global Critical Minerals Outlook 2025," the International Energy Agency (IEA) rightly emphasizes that it is crucial to closely monitor such concentrated supply chains for the sake of global security and defense capabilities.

Almonty Industries: Strategic Reassessment Opens Up Further Upside Potential

It is a good thing when a company has what many others want. This is particularly true for Almonty Industries. The US-based company produces the critical raw material tungsten, which is in high demand and irreplaceable across many industries due to its unique properties, such as extreme heat resistance and the ability to withstand enormous pressure. Demand is rising enormously, particularly in the defense industry. Almonty is set to become the largest tungsten producer outside of China in the foreseeable future. Its main production site in Sangdong, South Korea, was designed to generate high margins even in a low-price environment of USD 350 per metric ton unit (MTU). The price currently stands at USD 3,000 per MTU. Analysts are factoring in only a fraction of that. Given the fundamentally changed market conditions, a revaluation of the stock will begin, taking into account the new reality and the company's geopolitical significance.
