In times of energy scarcity, storage is essential in addition to generation. Engineering firms worldwide are currently searching for the "super battery." It should contain fewer pollutants, be rechargeable many times, allow for a high capacity and not cause problems during later disposal. We will not be able to reconcile all of these criteria anytime soon, but in the overall process, even incremental steps are having a significant effect as the energy storage sector evolves into the next trillion-dollar market. Golden times for Nel and Varta? Tension is rising at First Hydrogen
The prices for oil, gas & Co. remain at a high level this week, not least because Russia has reduced gas supplies to Europe. In Germany, Economics Minister Robert Habeck is working at full speed on emergency plans for the winter and is calling for energy savings. In the long term, there will be no way around renewable energies. Analysts expect golden times for companies like Nel ASA and Varta. But smaller innovative companies like hydrogen pure-play First Hydrogen are also interesting. That is because analysts expect demand for hydrogen to outstrip supply massively. In the battery sector, Goldman Sachs recommends buying the Varta share. The MDAX group's sales are expected to more than double in the coming years, thanks to electromobility. The annual general meeting was held yesterday.

The latest data from the Federal Statistical Office speak a clear language. E-cars are increasingly in demand. Around 90% of German e-car production is exported. "Made in Germany" therefore still scores points. The performance of the batteries, adequate infrastructure and the availability of essential raw materials such as lithium are important parameters for rapid market penetration. Innovations always remain the trump card. Germany certainly doesn't have to hide in this respect.
