Most people agree that the economy must become climate-neutral. However, despite promising technologies, the path to climate neutrality is not without obstacles. Handelsblatt newspaper now quotes a joint study by three institutes, according to which seven raw materials are needed to master the transformation of the economy. These include graphite, rare earths, nickel, cobalt, iridium, lithium and manganese. The scientific community also recommends that policymakers promote the entire value chains of key technologies. We look at what this means and where investors can look for opportunities.

  • Digitization

Rare earths are becoming increasingly important due to digitalization, especially for the electronics industry. Defense Metals, a company from Canada, is focusing on the extraction of rare earths at the Wicheeda project. Geotechnical investigations are progressing rapidly in order to develop the valuable raw material. Volkswagen reports an impressive 17.9% increase in car sales in July. Nevertheless, the Company is lowering its annual sales forecast due to growing competition in China. Germany's energy transition is affecting major corporations like BASF. The US company Cheniere Energy will supply BASF with liquefied gas in the future. To adapt to the new market conditions, BASF has successfully completed the spin-off of its mobile exhaust catalyst and precious metal services businesses. The new site surprises.

Plug Power, Almonty Industries, JinkoSolar - Will the doubler come after the Crisis?

  • Mining
  • Tungsten
  • RareEarths
  • renewableenergies

Currently, there are several hotspots of crisis around the world. There is the war between Russia and Ukraine, the efforts of the BRICS countries to free themselves from the supremacy of the US dollar, and the smoldering dispute between the US and China. Relations between the latter have deteriorated in recent years, partly because the US fears growing Chinese influence. However, the BRICS nations are blessed with raw materials that the West desperately needs. The list of critical metals is long. This is also true for Europe, which has had an energy problem above all since the Ukraine conflict. Efforts are being made to solve this. We have picked out one company from each of the various focal points.

Greentech rally restarts again! Siemens Energy, Defense Metals, SMA and JinkoSolar - critical metals are in demand

Greentech stocks have been a hot topic since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) by the Joe Biden Administration. That is because, besides the EU, the US now also wants to step on the gas pedal significantly. It is all about investing in the future of climate protection. This primarily involves technologies for alternative energy generation, such as solar or wind power plants. Under the IRA, US investments in the future will be subject to a tax bonus. For industry, the key point remains the availability of strategically important metals, as they are as rare as they are highly sought after. Where are the opportunities for investors?

In the race to meet climate targets, both politics and business are entering uncharted territory. The rapid departure from fossil fuels calls for alternative energy sources, increasing dependence on metallic raw materials, especially copper, cobalt, nickel and rare earth metals. But these essential resources, predominantly sourced from China, pose not only economic but also security challenges for the West, as they also play a key role in armaments.

Powerful movement through the flood of figures - Siemens Energy, Almonty Industries, Nio

The second quarter number season is at its peak, and surprises on both sides promise high volatility. BioNTech, the vaccine manufacturer, was hit hard after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Siemens Gamesa's wind power business also negatively affected the parent company's balance sheet. There are currently plenty of opportunities in the market, especially for traders.

After Nel ASA exceeded sales expectations in the second quarter, Goldman Sachs recommended the stock as a buy. The price target is NOK 20, offering almost 50% upside potential. Now Plug Power is also recommended as a buy, and analysts see a significantly higher price potential. Experts see nearly 200% price potential for Standard Lithium after the Company published convincing drilling results. Not yet on the screen of analysts is Defense Metals. But this could change soon. The Company is developing an exciting rare earths project in North America, and the preliminary economic valuation of over CAD 500 million gives the stock plenty of upside.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has concluded her four-day trip to China. The conclusion of the visit is quite positive on both sides, even if Yellen openly admits differences between the two world powers. Relations between Washington and Beijing have deteriorated significantly in recent years over trade and human rights issues, dealings with Taiwan, and a host of other issues. However, the supply situation of strategic raw materials remains an important issue. We examine buying opportunities in the high-tech sector.

Tanks are rolling through Europe once again. Since February 24, 2022, the Ukraine war has kept the world on edge. But even on Germany's roads, vehicles weighing several tons are rolling around in the form of SUVs. While in China, a 700 kg city runabout is winning the hearts of customers, in Germany, even the lower middle class like to show off. Today we look at what this means for the hunger for critical raw materials, why Norway now wants to mine rare earths at the bottom of the sea, and what promising land alternatives exist.
