Unknown and better than Tesla? BYD, First Phosphate, Varta

BYD wants to have sold a whopping 1.86 million cars in 2022. That is about 500,000 more than competitor Tesla. Despite this, Elon Musk's company is still considered an e-car giant. Why is that? Certainly, the focus on Western markets has to do with the fact that many investors from the US and Europe still favour Tesla. We look at why thinking outside the box can pay off and how it can help investors seize opportunities.

Power Nickel, American Lithium, Cameco - Last chance before new wave?

  • Mining

The climate targets have been set, and the energy turnaround must be achieved. After the escalation of the conflict in Eastern Europe, the future must become green even faster to escape dependence on Russian oil and gas. Decarbonization is to succeed alongside the electrification of transport and the significant expansion of renewable energies. To date, it has yet to be precisely analyzed where the required industrial metals and raw materials are to come from. A shortage and, thus, sharply rising prices are pre-programmed. Producers of critical goods, especially from the West, are the clear beneficiaries.

The big energy question in 2023: BYD, Altech Advanced Materials, Varta, BASF - Is the thread breaking?

  • Batteries
  • Electromobility

Although the year 2023 starts with rising share prices, Central Europe is entering a difficult period. The start of the New Year brings a new situation for German consumers of refined products, as the purchase of crude oil via the Druzhba pipeline has now been stopped. Germany is thus implementing the oil embargo against Russia decided in the EU and losing a vital supply of oil overnight. As a result, the East German refinery in Schwedt reduced its throughput to 55% and is looking around for other suppliers. Whether this will work out in the short term is more than questionable. If the gas storage facilities are empty at the end of the relatively warm winter, the energy question will arise again. We now realize how fatally energy dependence on Russia has grown over the past decades. How tangible are alternative energies and the high-performance energy storage facilities they require?

Nio, Altech Advanced Materials, Rheinmetall - Still on trend

The prevailing themes from last year will continue to be in vogue in 2023. Due to the political strategy of achieving peace through heavy weapons, the order situation for defense companies should improve even further. In addition, electric carmakers should continue to top the sales figures from the fiscal year ending in 2022. In terms of the efficiency of the battery, which is essential for electromobility, several companies worldwide are fighting for the crown. One German company has two hot irons in the fire.

Power Nickel, Rock Tech Lithium, BYD - Race to secure critical raw materials

  • Mining
  • Lithium
  • Electromobility

  • Batteries

Since the major car manufacturers decided to equip their cars with electric drives, the demand for certain raw materials has skyrocketed. The result has been a sharp rise in prices. Some of the most important raw materials needed for the production of electric cars include lithium, cobalt and nickel. At the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, the world's largest nickel producer proposed to the Canadians that they set up an organization similar to OPEC for nickel. Such moves are a sign that the battle for key EV commodities is growing. So today, we look at one nickel and one lithium company and see how the battery and electric car maker BYD is positioning itself.

Altech Advanced Materials, BYD, Apple - With this innovation Germany becomes an energy driver

  • Energy

Germany is known for its engineering. With Altech Advanced Materials, a new type of battery is paving its way that trumps all previous storage capacities. Together with Fraunhofer IKTS, the Heidelberg-based company is breaking new ground. BYD is also planning another battery plant, but in the USA. So far, the Chinese carmaker has held back in the consumer market there, preferring to focus on electric buses. But it will soon be adding another EV brand to its international portfolio. Apple will soon have to prepare itself. To comply with competition law, the EU demands that the Cupertino-based company open up its iPhone and iPad systems to other app stores. Find out what this means for sales here.

Three years ago, the Chinese battery market leader CATL presented its cell-to-pack technology to the world for the first time. A new battery with this design is now said to give e-vehicles a range of 1,000 km and super-fast charging in just 10 minutes. According to CATL, the "Qilin" battery is more powerful than Tesla's 4680 cells. CATL plans to begin mass-producing the new battery in 2023. Whether the promised distance will be achieved, however, depends on the size of the installed battery and the vehicle's aerodynamics. In Europe and North America, research and development is also being carried out at full speed because the market for e-mobility still promises growth of over 30% per annum. What is the current status in Germany?

When it comes to everyday products, we all have clear ideas about prices. For a long time, the EUR 2 mark, for example, was considered an average price for a piece of butter. But as soon as it becomes more expensive, it is worth a headline in a newspaper with big letters. It is a different story with cars or other high-quality products. Thanks to high-quality workmanship and technology, customers are willing to pay more than the actual market prices. In economics, the difference between the high price and the market price is called producer surplus. We present three companies that want to skim off this producer surplus.

BYD, Altech Advanced Materials, Nio - New players in the multi-billion market

  • Electromobility
  • Batteries

Electromobility is seen as having no alternative in the transformation of the transport sector. In 2021 alone, the number of new registrations and the market share of battery-powered vehicles more than doubled. In addition to the charging infrastructure, battery efficiency plays a decisive role in the spread of e-cars. However, a German company is poised to become the new standard on the market by developing a novel coating method. With the establishment of a joint venture, the Company is also researching a revolutionary battery technology that works without the critical raw material lithium.
