Rumors about Jerome Powell's resignation were circulating at the beginning of the week. Described as very "hawkish," meaning he strictly aligns interest rates with inflation, he is an uncomfortable contemporary for President Donald Trump. The US administration needs a lot of money to get the outdated infrastructure and the entire economy back on track. Numerous campaign promises for a flourishing America can only be fulfilled by the flamboyant frontman if sufficient funds are available. This is a difficult undertaking due to the very high level of government debt. The credit rating agency Moody's is not intimidated by the president's threats and recently downgraded the US credit rating by one notch to AA1. Triple-A status is now history. This is a perfect setup for gold, with the precious metal rising again to over USD 3,400. Where are the opportunities for investors?

The markets are in turmoil. "Fast market," shouts a trader as prices fluctuate by the second. With news coming in at such a rapid pace, investors' nerves are on edge. But for level-headed investors, there are now bargains to be had that were missing just months ago. However, the selection is not easy because international customs policy also plays a role alongside company balance sheets. If punitive tariffs of over 100% are not withdrawn, the automotive sector could even face a total market collapse. Consumers at the end of the chain will not want to and cannot pay the artificially inflated prices. The economy would inevitably collapse. We are looking at stable business models with medium-term opportunities.

Analysts at Goldman Sachs currently see an opportunity to enter the gold market. The experts believe that a price increase to USD 3,500 is possible. Hidden gem Golden Cariboo Resources should also benefit from this. The Company is active in legally secure Canada, and the stock appears undervalued. Important drilling results are expected later this year. Caution is advised with Barrick Gold, however. The stock was recently recommended by TV presenter Jim Cramer. However, the US stock market expert is considered a contrarian indicator, especially on social media. Meanwhile, there is positive news from abroad for Steyr Motors. A multi-million-dollar order is pushing the rumors of BaFin investigations into the background.

The earnings season for the full year 2024 is in full swing, with quite a few companies significantly outperforming analyst forecasts. Another topic currently keeping the world in suspense is US President Donald Trump's "America First" policy. As can be seen from the negotiations with Ukraine, the "new sheriff in town" is concerned with securing rare earth deposits. When it comes to the metal tungsten, however, the US government seems to be already one step ahead, and a lesser-known company is likely to emerge as the winner here.

The rising demand for industrial metals from the renewable energy sector and the increased demand from the defense industry due to the current geopolitical shift pose significant challenges for the Western world. In addition to exploring its own deposits, an improvement in trade relations with China would be desirable. However, following the visit of the Minister of Economic Affairs to China's most important trading partner, this wish has receded into the distant future.
