Attention: New battery technology in demand! Freyr Battery, Manuka Resources, Varta and IBU-tec in focus

Despite all ecological reservations, the electrified future is advancing. In an effort to combat climate change, politicians have decided on the complete electrification of the future. The plan to entirely displace fossil fuels will lead many countries into a new economic dimension that will outperform conventional economies for a long time. However, a beautiful, new world must be economically affordable. This requires significant technological advancement and a tremendous amount of money for the transformation; ideological thinking helps little in this regard. Central Europe, in particular, is an importer of raw materials and energy and is a long way from setting world-changing parameters. However, since everything has already been decided in Berlin, millions of batteries and stationary energy storage systems are now needed for the green transformation. The key here is access to the critical metals of the future. These strategic decisions are being evaluated in the stock market. It is worth doing the math.

Attention in the battery sector: Varta in sellout, Mercedes, Power Nickel and IBU-tec with good prospects!

What a debacle for Varta! While many manufacturers worldwide are looking for clean battery solutions, things continue to go downhill for the company in Ellwangen. The linchpin of mobile electrification is the development of a super battery. The conventional battery market is dominated by the Chinese group CATL with a 38% share, followed by BYD. But there are also many smaller technology companies in Germany, such as Altech Advanced Materials and IBU-Tec, that are getting involved in the battery market. We go in search of sector highlights.

Who builds the best battery? Varta, Altech Advanced Materials, SFC Energy, IBU-tec - The entry is tempting!

Three years ago, the Chinese battery market leader CATL presented its cell-to-pack technology to the world for the first time. A new battery with this design is now said to give e-vehicles a range of 1,000 km and super-fast charging in just 10 minutes. According to CATL, the "Qilin" battery is more powerful than Tesla's 4680 cells. CATL plans to begin mass-producing the new battery in 2023. Whether the promised distance will be achieved, however, depends on the size of the installed battery and the vehicle's aerodynamics. In Europe and North America, research and development is also being carried out at full speed because the market for e-mobility still promises growth of over 30% per annum. What is the current status in Germany?

The battery solution: IBU-tec, Meta Materials, BASF - Materials that dreams are made of!

  • Technology

Whether e-mobility, aircraft technology or renewable energies, virtually all high-tech segments of industry require raw materials and processed materials in ever-increasing quantities. Currently, the problem lies in procurement, which is driving prices to unexpected highs. The tonnages relevant for 2022 and subsequent years can hardly be mined in the mines currently in production. Many projects in this area are only at the beginning of development or are already operating at their limits. Politicians are trying to create a certain degree of planning security for the domestic industry through long-term supply agreements with partner countries. For us, this is a reason to take a look at well-known high-tech material producers.

IBU-tec, Meta Materials, Standard Lithium, Orocobre - Materials for the Super Battery!

The demand exceeds the quantity! Whether e-mobility, aircraft technology or renewable energies, all high-tech segments of industry require raw materials and processed materials in ever-increasing amounts. Currently, the problem lies in procurement. The relevant tonnages cannot be mined in the world's mines because many projects are only at the beginning of development or are operating at their limit. A lithium mining site needs about 5 years of gestation time. It is about 7 years for copper with high 3-digit million amounts required as basic investment capital. Given the global conflicts, politicians are at a loss regarding how medium-term availability can be ensured, which ultimately means that the price is the deciding factor.

BASF, Meta Materials, IBU-Tec, SGL Carbon - Materials that dreams are made of!

  • Investments

Whether e-mobility, aircraft technology or renewable energies - there are inherent scarcities and political implications in many high-tech materials essential for the German economy and future and resource-efficient technologies. Their production and further processing cost a lot of precious energy, and not all environmental or health impacts have been clarified. Mining companies and processing industries are therefore required to observe sustainability principles and not just implement them on paper. Some companies take a proactive approach to this issue, while others must first be forced into line politically. We take a look at some of the protagonists.

NIO, Geely, IBU-tec, Silkroad Nickel - Attention, watch closely here!

  • Nickel

The first sharp correction occurred yesterday. The major indices lost between 1 and 4% - the TecDAX was hit the hardest with a minus of 3.7% at the peak. Is this the turnaround from the top? No, say the chart technicians. It is not yet a lost cause because the indices had demanded a correction for many months. Since March 2020, there have hardly been any significant corrections in most stocks. At the end of January, the hydrogen stocks began to fall, and now there is money to be had in the broader sense. No disaster - the selection of good titles is now the trump card.

The industry is now overflowing with pronouncements on electric mobility! The USD 2 trillion infrastructure plan unveiled by Joe Biden includes allocating hundreds of billions of dollars for measures against the vexing climate change. According to estimates by the renowned investment house Raymond James, the funds earmarked for climate spending total USD 628 billion, including USD 174 billion for research into electric mobility and another USD 100 billion to rehabilitate the USA's ailing power grid. Reason enough for us to take a closer look at metal and battery stocks.

Rarely has the stock market been so volatile and exciting as in the last few days. Hedge fund Melvin Capital had to close out because of the GameStop share, and now the next wave is probably looming with AMC Entertainment. A full 270% went through the roof right at the opening; according to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) thousands of buy orders were already there at opening. Again, there had been a recommendation in a social media channel. On the Nasdaq, it jumped rapidly from USD 5 to USD 21 right at the opening - something you rarely see. And GameStop continues today after yesterday's debacle! After several trading suspensions, the value exploded further from USD 149 to USD 380 after a good hour of trading. That should have been the end of trading school for many new entrants!
