Kobo Resources is increasingly becoming a potential hot takeover candidate in the gold sector. The explorer can once again report high-grade gold discoveries. Will a neighbor soon make a move? In contrast, Plug Power shareholders are fleeing. The hydrogen stock has already lost more than 30% in the current week alone. Will the share price horror continue? D-Wave has also lost around 50% of its value within a few weeks. The quantum high-flyer is currently reporting on its technology to reduce the energy hunger of the AI boom. Can this bring about a turnaround?

Kobo Resources: Another high-grade gold discovery

With the consolidation of the gold price, Kobo Resources' stock has also lost significant value in recent weeks, which presents an exciting opportunity to buy in. The explorer is increasingly becoming a gold gem with takeover potential. Another high-grade gold discovery has been reported.

Kobo is currently advancing two projects in Côte d'Ivoire. The West African country is one of the most stable on the continent. The government is focusing on international mining partnerships and attracting more and more gold companies.

High-grade results were recently reported for the Kotobi Gold project. In an initial exploration program covering an area of 301.8 km², Kobo identified four distinct anomalies with gold grades well above 500 ppb locally and peak values of up to 1,420 ppb Au. The Kotobi project is located in the central east of Côte d'Ivoire and rests on folded volcanic, sedimentary, and metasedimentary units.

The region is located in the Dimbokro-Abengourou Belt, a structurally favorable zone of the West African Craton where numerous economic gold deposits have already been identified.

Exploration of the Kossou Gold Project is already at a more advanced stage. It is located only about 40 km from the capital, Yamoussoukro, in the Birimian Belt. An extensive drill program is currently underway for the resource estimate. To date, drilling has outlined promising gold deposits near surface and at depth with grades of up to 17.30 g/t Au. Kobo is confident that the growing gold system with significant potential will continue. Important for shareholders: The Kossou project is located just a few kilometers from a producing mine owned by Perseus Mining. If the resource estimate is convincing, Kobo would be a very hot takeover candidate.

    Plug Power: Stock slips

While Kobo Resources shareholders can rejoice over high-grade gold discoveries, Plug Power is currently in a hangover mood. This week alone, the former hydrogen high-flyer's stock has lost over 30% of its value. The stock is currently trading at EUR 1.45. In October, it was still at EUR 4 when Plug Power was suddenly counted among the winners of the AI energy boom. That euphoria is over.

The reason for the current price disaster: the Company urgently needs capital, which means that existing shareholders will be heavily diluted. The hydrogen specialist has placed a convertible bond with a volume of USD 375 million (with an option of up to USD 400 million) and a term until 2033. The interest rate is a hefty 6.75%. The convertible bonds can be converted at an initial conversion price of around USD 3 per share (333.3333 shares per USD 1,000 par value). The share price reflects what Plug shareholders think of the transaction.

D-Wave: New energy for the stock?

D-Wave's stock has also been under pressure recently, albeit not as severely as Plug. However, the quantum stock has also halved from its October high of around EUR 40. Perhaps participation in the SC25 supercomputing conference in St. Louis will provide new impetus.

D-Wave will be presenting its progress in hybrid solutions there until tomorrow. The presentation will cover the integration of its quantum processors (QPUs) into modern HPC environments, specific industrial customer applications, and early quantum AI use cases. The aim is to show how quantum and classical computers – QPUs, GPUs, and CPUs – can be combined into scalable, energy-efficient overall systems that are already delivering measurable benefits in complex optimization and simulation tasks.

Against the backdrop of skyrocketing energy costs due to AI workloads, D-Wave plans to position its technology as a potential "green accelerator" for data centers. D-Wave manager Murray Thom explains how the new Advantage2 quantum annealer can solve some real-world issues faster, better, and with less energy than classical AI systems.

The slump at Plug Power is tempting to get in on. However, investors should bear in mind that the Company is far from having a profitable business model. The high-grade gold discoveries and increasing takeover speculation are arguments in favor of buying Kobo Resources shares. D-Wave remains a basic investment in the quantum sector, but is also likely to remain highly volatile.

Gold Rush 2.0: Why Barrick Mining, Agnico Eagle, and Kobo Resources Are Setting the Pace Now

The global economy is in turmoil. Tangible assets are regaining massive importance. As the global AI revolution devours vast amounts of resources and trade restrictions cause shortages of strategic raw materials, gold is once again taking center stage as the ultimate safe haven. In this tense environment, investors are not only looking at established industry players like Barrick Mining and Agnico Eagle, which could be poised to return to all-time highs. Dynamic explorers like Kobo Resources are also attracting attention with massive discoveries in West Africa. A look at the numbers and recent developments suggests we may be only at the beginning of a multi-year trend. This trend is likely to separate the wheat from the chaff and reward the bold. The current technical resistance levels may now become mere stepping stones on the way up. In any case, the hunger for raw materials seems far from satisfied.

WOMEN POWER IN THE GOLD HOTSPOT: THE SUCCESS FORMULA OF NEWMONT, LAHONTAN GOLD, AND PARAMOUNT GOLD NEVADA

    • Nevada

It was a seismic shift that resonated far beyond Wall Street and deep into the shafts of the global mining industry: when Natascha Viljoen took the helm at Newmont, the world's largest gold mining company, earlier this year, it was far more than just a leadership change. It marked a definitive signal that the era of the "Old Boys Club" in mining is coming to an end. Away from the major headlines, this transformation is also unfolding elsewhere—particularly in the gold hotspot of Nevada. There, companies like Lahontan Gold and Paramount Gold Nevada are demonstrating that female leadership and expertise are increasingly setting the benchmark for the next generation of mining operations. Together, these three companies—from global heavyweight to specialized explorer—impressively demonstrate that in the 21st century, women's leadership has become a key economic factor in what was once a male-dominated field.

A More Defensive Approach to Investing in Commodities: How Franco-Nevada, Globex Mining, and BHP Diversify Their Risk

    • Mining
    • royalties
    • Commodities

Investors looking to avoid single-stock exposure in the commodities sector can turn to broadly diversified companies. These companies typically provide capital and, in return, receive license fees—so-called royalties. The advantage: they do not bear the operational risks of running a mine. In addition, royalties are generally calculated based on revenue rather than profit. When costs rise—such as in the current environment of higher energy prices—the impact falls primarily on the mine operator, not the royalty holder. With this business model, Franco-Nevada has grown into one of the largest royalty companies in the industry. However, smaller players like Globex Mining are also worth a closer look. Meanwhile, mining giant BHP represents an alternative approach through scale and diversification across multiple commodities.
