In recent days and weeks, rising global bond yields have not been the only source of considerable uncertainty in equity markets. Instead, the massive financing needs of tech companies are becoming increasingly apparent. SpaceX plans to raise USD 40 billion through borrowing, while Oracle and OpenAI also appear to need more money. Not least, media reports say Japan's SoftBank is trying to raise up to USD 100 billion from investors in the Middle East for its AI plans. Added to this is a very high level of concentration in the major US indices. The three largest stocks, Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft, now account for 21% of the S&P 500. Based on Q3 estimates, more than two-thirds of earnings growth in this index now comes from the AI sector. The rest of the US economy is not really performing. In such volatile periods, it is worth looking at speculative stocks. These often move disproportionately following sharp market movements and offer leverage on the respective sector. Today, we take a look at the shares of Super Micro Computer, Strategic Resources and Infineon.

Super Micro Computer: Volatility is King

Super Micro Computer shares are among the most volatile stocks in the tech sector. Since mid-2025, the shares have traded with extreme volatility in a range between USD 20 and USD 60. This makes Super Micro Computer ideally suited to short-term speculation.

The company was an early winner of the AI boom. Super Micro Computer is a key player in IT and data centre infrastructure. The company develops and builds high-performance servers, storage systems and modular system architectures. It integrates high-performance chips from Nvidia, Intel, AMD and others into ready-to-use server racks.

However, the modular construction approach has failed to deliver the expected margins. At the same time, allegations made by prominent short seller Hindenburg Research continue to cast a shadow over the company. According to Hindenburg, SMCI may have been booking revenue prematurely or artificially by shipping products to customers just before the end of a quarter. Further allegations followed, culminating in auditor EY resigning from its engagement while the audit was still underway.

All of this has undermined confidence in management, though it may not deter speculators. Operationally, the margin problem is the main issue. In the second quarter, the company even reported negative free cash flow.

For traders, by contrast, chart signals are important. Recently, the stock moved higher again alongside the semiconductor sector and is now in the upper half of its trading range. If the sector continues to rise, Super Micro Computer shares are also likely to ride the wave higher again. The company is not an investment, but it may be a trading opportunity in volatile times.

Strategic Resources: Micro-Cap Speculation

Canadian micro-caps offer speculators a wide range of opportunities. The bet often pays off when projects have real operational substance. This is the case with Strategic Resources shares.

The Canadian company is developing the BlackRock project, which contains high-purity iron. In addition to iron, the deposit contains vanadium and titanium, two critical metals currently in high demand. Both metals are on the US list of critical raw materials and are also a focus of the US Department of War. The ongoing US trade war is currently accelerating approval procedures for North American mining sites. The Canadian government has also implemented corresponding measures and is committing substantial funding to expand infrastructure.

However, Strategic Resources plans to become more than just a mining company. In the next step, the high-purity iron is to be processed into iron pellets. The target is production of 4 million tonnes per year. These „Direct Reduction Grade Pellets“ are needed for electric arc furnaces in the steel industry to produce green steel, for example. Companies can charge higher prices for these than for conventional material.

Here, Strategic Resources can benefit from the US tariff war and the steel sector's protectionist environment. Special US tariffs ensure that North American supply chains move into pole position, as US steel mills are forced to source raw materials and feedstock from USMCA-compliant regions such as the US or Canada. A welcome side effect for suppliers: the tariffs lead to high US domestic prices, which also have a positive impact on profit margins for feedstock.

The company currently has a market capitalisation of just CAD 13 million, with the share price at around CAD 0.22. Positive announcements could quickly drive the shares back towards CAD 0.30, while the annual high is above CAD 0.40.

Infineon: Waiting for the Breakout

Operationally, things are going very well at Infineon. Management recently reported „extremely robust“ demand. The company put its order backlog at EUR 25 billion, which it expects to extend well into the next fiscal year. However, growing concerns regarding the AI sector are also weighing on this DAX-listed stock.

Infineon shares have lost over a third of their value fairly quickly since their June high of EUR 88.83. The slide only began to stabilise in the EUR 55 to 60 range, representing a key support zone for the stock.

Technically, either an upward breakout could occur now, or the next major correction will follow. Investors should therefore keep an eye on the areas around EUR 53/54 as important chart levels. As long as this zone holds, the medium-term uptrend remains intact. On the upside, resistance sits around EUR 65. Only when the shares sustainably break through this resistance can trend followers enter. If, on the other hand, the shares fall below the 200-day moving average, currently around EUR 56, extreme caution is warranted.

Traders and speculators should keep in mind, however, that despite its lack of exposure to high-performance AI chips, Infineon is firmly caught up in the broader sector trend. On the stock market, guilt by association is simply part of the game!

Conclusion

Super Micro Computer is likely to appeal primarily to hardened traders. Given Strategic Resources' low market capitalisation, speculators can bet on the next positive news. Infineon, in turn, is subject to guilt by association with the chip sector. If everything is moving upwards, the Munich-based company also rises strongly alongside it. But one thing is clear: in this market environment, these are highly speculative trading opportunities.

Allied Raw Materials and the Battle for a Turnaround: adesso, INDUS, Strategic Resources

The race for competitive technologies, strategic raw materials and the right moment on the chart is driving companies and investors alike. One stock in today's report is targeting the key resistance line again for the first time in months after a price decline; another must prove, after a spectacular rally, that its profit jump is more than a one-off commodity effect. A third, barely noticed stock is betting on vanadium for green steel and fast-charging batteries. Whether a comeback, a test or a quiet beacon of hope, opportunities and risks must be carefully weighed up.

Nervousness is rising across the markets. Share prices are being driven by major investors taking stakes, the AI boom, political statements, and the latest developments in the war. While chip giant Infineon is benefiting from a massive AI boost despite market turbulence, China's Anta is gaining influence at Puma and could give the sporting goods manufacturer exactly the fresh momentum it needs. Meanwhile, Canadian technology company HPQ Silicon is approaching a critical technical resistance level. A breakout could open the door to significant upside potential. What opportunities do these three very different stocks offer, and where might an entry point be worthwhile?

These are turbulent times for the stock markets. Interest rates are rising, bank stocks are weakening, and the number of mega-IPOs, including SpaceX and Anthropic, keeps growing. Parallels with previous stock-market crashes are becoming increasingly apparent. Yet many investors are still riding a wave of euphoria. The current bull market is already the longest in US stock-market history, driven largely by artificial intelligence. But the downside is becoming increasingly evident: valuations are high, and concentration in the major stock indices is enormous. Consider just one example: ten stocks, the so-called Magnificent Seven, along with Broadcom, AMD, and Micron, now account for 42% of the S&P 500. At these levels, there is little room for anything to go wrong. Even in this market environment, however, opportunities and risks coexist. Today, we take a closer look at Samsung, Volatus Aerospace and Equinox Gold.
