Is Elon Musk making a move on Standard Lithium? News from Newmont and Tocvan Ventures

  • Lithium
  • Gold
  • Mining

The sentiment of investors in lithium and gold stocks could hardly be more different at the moment. Shares such as Standard Lithium and Livent are recovering significantly from their interim phase of weakness. The entire sector is benefiting from positive comments by Tesla founder Elon Musk. There is also speculation that the wealthiest man in the world could take a stake in Standard Lithium. It would make perfect sense for Tesla. In contrast, all hope seems to be fading in the gold sector. Heavyweights like Barrick Gold and Newmont are trading near 52-week lows. The latest setback was Newmont's numbers. However, the dividend yield is now tempting, and there are also positives from the gold sector. Canadian explorer Tocvan Ventures reported convincing drill results.

Finding the next BioNTech: MorphoSys, XPhyto Therapeutics, Formycon - Who will make the breakthrough?

  • Biotechnology

The Mainz-based biotech Company BioNTech has shown the way with Cormirnaty®: stringent research and adherence to milestones ultimately lead to success. The main and founding investors Strüngmann are still on board as long-term investors with over 40% even after the price correction. The mRNA technology is now mutating into the basis for a whole new class of drugs, and BioNTech could thus become a new German pharmaceutical giant. The brothers from Tegernsee know what they are talking about. Their start-up capital came from the first major exit after they sold their generic drug manufacturer Hexal, founded in 1979, to Novartis for EUR 5.65 billion in 2005. Since then, they have continued to invest in biotechnology through their family office. The challenge is to find the next BioNTech.

To be better equipped against the currently prevalent Omicron variant, BioNTech/Pfizer have specifically adapted the Comirnaty vaccine to it. Valneva's recently approved vaccine also provides good protection against Omicron through a broader immune response to its inactivated vaccine. Also involved in vaccine development is the Canadian company Defence Therapeutics. It is currently attracting attention with its cancer-fighting developments and could become a real gem.

The first half of the current stock market year brought heavy losses due to political and economic uncertainties. For the leading American index, the S&P 500, this led to the most significant price correction since the 1970s. In Germany, the DAX 40 lost around 20% of its value. Investors are now eagerly awaiting the second quarter results. In addition to Deutsche Bank, carmaker Mercedes-Benz also posted surprisingly good results. The chemical company BASF is also more confident despite the existing gas crisis.
