Allianz, Commerzbank, TUI, Wirecard - and news for investors
A week on the stock market with positive price development is slowly coming to an end. The DAX was at a low of 10,426 points at the beginning of the week and currently stands at 10,837 points. The gain of more than 400 points is mainly due to the relaxation of measures to limit the spread of the Corona Pandemic. In the meantime, more and more citizens have doubts that the Federal Government has reacted appropriately in dealing with Covid-19. In retrospect, of course, people are always smarter. The fact that the opinions of medical specialists and virologists on this type of corona virus diverged widely and that politicians took the side of drastic measures may have contributed to the fact that Germany has got off so lightly so far.

The stock exchanges are currently in an interesting market phase. After the price slumps since February 2020, as a result of the spread of the Corona Pandemic, most indices have been able to make significant gains again and are now fluctuating in the middle between the time before COVID-19 and the days when the panic was at its highest. This is no coincidence, as central banks and politicians are all pulling together to provide support, and in some European countries a ban on short selling has even been imposed. In other words, without official market intervention, the recovery would probably have been less rapid.

The world is currently experiencing a new normality at a rapid pace. The benefits of globalisation and its consequences are being felt and are hitting society with full force. Politics and businesses around the globe are taking responsibility to alleviate the situation with Covid-19. However, a pandemic is only over when a large part of the population has already become immune or a vaccine is available for prevention. Current measures, such as curfews, aim to reduce the speed of spread for high-risk groups so that hospital capacity is sufficient for intensive care patients.

Homes & Holiday AG has had a difficult time. Following the IPO in summer 2018, the forecast was adjusted in autumn 2018. The stocks of the specialist for holiday properties has not recovered from this to date. In an interview with 4investors, CEO Joachim Semrau explains that the cost-cutting measures are taking effect and that the break-even should be successful in the coming year.
