During the past weeks of August, due to the stock market turbulences, it would probably have been the right decision for almost every investor to close out their positions and disappear for a well-deserved vacation. But also at the airports, there were delays and flight cancellations due to staff shortages and strikes at Deutsche Lufthansa. Happy are the ones who can go off with the camper or caravan and enjoy the most beautiful weeks of the year regardless of what is happening. As a camper, you are no longer a lone warrior. At the latest, since the pandemic, this type of vacation has conquered the mass market, and the growth curve points steeply upward for the future.

The tourism industry has suffered losses in recent years due to the pandemic. Be it staff shortages like at Lufthansa and at the airports, with the resulting chaos of cancelled flights and passengers waiting for hours at check-in. This volatility is reflected in the shares. On the other hand, the growth of Pathfinder Ventures, a Canadian company specializing in campgrounds for RVs in the most beautiful places under the maple flag, is developing pleasantly positively. Pathfinder Ventures is upgrading its facilities and expanding by buying up more sites that are already well-attended. We look at the details.

It is exciting this summer! Can one really get out of Germany by plane? Lufthansa had recently significantly increased its program but then cancelled over 2,000 flights. Baggage and security handling is bursting at the seams, and those frustrated with the train will have to plan a few more hours to arrive with the 9 Euro ticket. The Corona pandemic has completely disrupted the travel market, there is a shortage of staff everywhere, and now a strike by the pilots' union is looming. We are looking for opportunities for investors.

The sun is shining, an increasing number of German states are starting school vacations, and despite a summer corona wave, travel is finally possible again. After a 2 year Corona break, the desire to travel is greater than it has been for a long time. The shares of companies that make their living from tourism should profit from this. But at the moment, the mood is rather gloomy. TUI, Pathfinder Ventures, Lufthansa - The travel market is back - where are the share prices?

  • travel

The travel market has changed dramatically since 2019 in light of the Corona pandemic. Due to the most extensive pandemic standstill in 2020, the capacities for flights, rail traffic and accommodation were adjusted downwards dramatically. Major cost reductions occurred primarily through de-occupancy and staff reductions. Travel companies cut their basic capacity utilization with partners to such an extent that many smaller operations had to pull out of the race, and large corporations could only survive with extensive state aid. Now, however, the situation has turned 180 degrees and demand for travel is exploding. However, this time it seems difficult to ramp up the reduced capacities in line with demand. We look at the opportunities of three typical industry players.

The tourism industry is one of the sectors hardest hit by the Corona Crisis worldwide. With the lifting of restrictions, booking numbers shot up, defying the war in Ukraine and rising prices. Tour operators report a sharp increase in bookings for the summer, which for several weeks have already exceeded pre-pandemic levels. In addition, travel-hungry travellers are paying significantly more than in the years before the lockdowns. The industry is on the verge of a turnaround. In addition to the usual hotel vacations, the demand for camping remains high. The few listed companies are benefiting particularly from the boom.
