BYD overtakes Volkswagen! Do Manuka Resources and Varta benefit from battery demand?

  • Mining
  • Vanadium
  • Electromobility
  • Batteries

Changing of the guard in the world's largest car market: for the first time since the 1980s, the Volkswagen brand is no longer number 1 in China. BYD sold more vehicles in the Middle Kingdom than VW in the first quarter. And while BYD sold only electric models, the German manufacturer also sold combustion engines. If the world's largest car market is to be a blueprint for Europe and the USA, Volkswagen, BMW & Co. are in for hard times. But the latest sales figures also show that demand for batteries is not going to collapse any time soon, as one or two experts predicted for this year. Those who want to bet on the raw materials for batteries should look at Manuka Resources. The Australians also have a second hot iron in the fire with gold projects. And what is the German battery pioneer Varta doing? Next week should be exciting.

Undeterred by the geopolitical and economic uncertainties, the world's stock markets have so far only known the way up. The German DAX index even reached a new high for the year of 15,832 points. The precious metal gold and Bitcoin also reached new highs for the year. Despite the ongoing rally in the financial markets, there are still attractive entry opportunities in lagging stocks.

On March 22, all eyes were on the FED decision. Will the balancing act between fighting inflation and stabilizing the banking system succeed? The collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the difficulties of Credit Suisse have caused plenty of uncertainty. The result has been significant premiums in the price of gold and cryptocurrencies as people try to protect their money. But regardless of the interest rate decision, there is interesting news on companies that have been under pressure recently and are waiting for a turnaround. We take a look at three of those candidates today.

What a week! Eight days ago, we mentioned Credit Suisse as the supposed crisis bank and speculated: "It is quite possible that there will be a consolidation of the industry in the next few weeks and that problem banks will be taken over by market competitors." You know the result. But what does this mean for investors? We think one step further!

JinkoSolar, Manuka Resources, BYD - Vanadium raw material as an insider tip

  • Mining
  • Vanadium
  • Batteries
  • renewableenergies

China and Russia are the two leading vanadium producers, with the Middle Kingdom producing 70,000 tons in 2022, more than 4 times as much vanadium as Russia. South Africa came in 3rd place with 3,000 tons. As a result, the metal has made it onto the list of critical raw materials in the US and Europe. In addition to common applications in steel production, catalysts and aerospace, the raw material is now coming into focus because of new vanadium redox batteries that can be used as energy storage devices and have a longer lifespan. The batteries are scalable, safer, and more environmentally friendly and can thus contribute to the energy transition. Commercialization is already starting, but vanadium is scarce.

Plug Power and Nordex disappoint, and a milestone for Manuka Resources

  • Mining
  • Vanadium

The shift to renewable energy is being accelerated significantly by policymakers and industry, but companies continue to struggle to meet their plan targets. Nevertheless, the market outlook is optimistic that the transformation to alternative energy will continue to gain momentum. One of the cost drivers is the high cost of raw materials, which has increased significantly again due to the sanctions against Russia. Manuka Resources is still a young player in the market that could significantly cushion the shortages of the critical raw material vanadium, which is needed for energy storage systems.

We look at three shares with a green future at exciting chart points.

Takeover fever 2023? BioNTech, Barrick Gold, Standard Lithium, Manuka Resources

  • Mining

  • Lithium
  • Biotechnology

The pharmaceutical sector was already in takeover fever last year. BioNTech partner Pfizer, among others, made several acquisitions. The hunger for acquisitions is likely to continue in the current year as major pharmaceutical and biotech companies are looking to fill up their pipelines. The current year could also be exciting for gold stocks. In 2022, companies failed to keep pace with the positive gold price. Producers of raw materials for the energy transition could also get into takeover fever. Manuka Resources could benefit from the latest two trends. The Canadians have just carried out a capital measure to advance their projects. Corporations could also target specialists like Standard Lithium. Rumours that Tesla is looking at lithium projects have been doing the rounds for a long time. And what about Barrick Gold and BioNTech?
