BYD, Globex Mining, Rio Tinto – Humanoid Robots Set to Fuel Demand for Raw Materials
A humanoid robot consists of more than just software. This is illustrated by a design patent the Chinese patent office published on October 9 for a BYD robot. Two arms, two legs and movable fingers need motors, batteries and cables, which means plenty of metal. If the automaker moves into series production, it could further boost demand for metals such as copper and lithium. The Chinese group is not alone in this, as Tesla, Hyundai, Xiaomi and others are also working on it. This development also benefits raw materials companies, from mining groups to royalty companies with broad portfolios. Today we take a closer look at BYD, Globex Mining and Rio Tinto.
