The next industrial revolution is taking place not only in data centres and chip factories. Laboratories, agricultural fields and water treatment plants are also becoming centres of technological innovation that could transform entire markets. Biological active ingredients are designed to reduce the use of conventional chemicals, automated laboratories to accelerate new product development, and advanced treatment systems to secure a clean water supply. Behind these developments lie substantial economic interests. Stricter environmental requirements, rising resource consumption and growing cost pressures are forcing companies worldwide to find more efficient solutions.

Danaher: Artificial Intelligence Is Revolutionising Laboratory Research

Danaher aims to significantly accelerate the development of new medicines and biotechnological processes. On October 7, the US group announced an AI-powered, largely autonomous research laboratory that is scheduled to begin operating in early 2027.

The facility is based at subsidiary Abcam's site and combines artificial intelligence with robotics and technologies from other group brands. The aim is to make antibody and molecular tool development more efficient. According to the company, the time to discover suitable reagents is expected to fall to one-eighth of the previous duration. At the same time, production volumes are set to increase by a factor of 10. This is achieved through continuous data analysis, with each test result feeding directly into further model optimisation.

To expand automation in research, Danaher has also entered into a partnership with Nvidia. The agreement provides for the integration of Nvidia's computing power and AI models into Danaher's scientific instruments. Edge computing is intended to enable future processing of research data directly on the devices. The joint concept aims to run practical experiments to train the algorithms while the AI calculates improved testing procedures in parallel. Technical integration will begin with selected devices and later extend to other parts of the range.

Analysts at RBC Capital have raised their price target for Danaher shares from USD 215 to USD 250 and maintained their "Outperform" rating. The increase reflects higher valuations among comparable companies in the sector. UBS also sets a fair value of USD 250 and recommends buying the shares.

MustGrow Biologics: Bayer Partnership and Rising Demand

While major technology groups invest billions in research, MustGrow Biologics is working on a different kind of revolution. The Canadian company develops biological solutions based on mustard plants to reduce conventional agrochemical and fertiliser use while improving soil health. With the organic biofertility product, TerraSante™, MustGrow already has a commercially marketed product. The TerraMG™ crop protection technology opens up additional prospects in international markets.

The collaboration with Bayer for the pre-registered TerraMG™ is strategically important. In August, MustGrow reached its first major development milestone, which enabled licensing revenue of CAD 1.36 million in the first half of 2026. Bayer is working on the regulatory development of TerraMG™ for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Successful commercialisation could lead to further milestone payments, royalties and revenue from active ingredient production.

The operating business is also gaining momentum. By mid-August 2026, TerraSante™ had already generated revenue of around CAD 900,000. That is about a 46% increase over total sales in fiscal year 2025. Notably, limited production capacity, not demand, is currently holding back growth. At the International Investment Forum (IIF) on October 7, management confirmed that scaling up manufacturing is among its most important tasks.

Analysts at GBC see considerable potential. In their study published at the end of September, they reiterated their Buy recommendation and set a price target of CAD 2.51 (EUR 1.54) by the end of 2027. The experts expect revenue of CAD 14.05 million for 2027, rising to CAD 31.56 million for 2028. For EBITDA, analysts forecast a positive CAD 8.46 million for 2028. However, these estimates depend largely on successful production expansion.

A promising technology platform could become a scalable business model. The Bayer partnership provides additional credibility, while TerraSante™ already demonstrates that biological agricultural solutions can be marketed commercially.

Veralto: A Billion-Dollar Market for Clean Water

Clean water is becoming an increasingly valuable resource worldwide. The US group, headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, develops technologies for water analysis, disinfection and pollutant removal. Its portfolio includes the well-known brands Hach, Trojan Technologies and ChemTreat. It also offers solutions for quality assurance of industrial products and packaging.

In water treatment, the group is further expanding its business through a strategic acquisition announced back in August. The company is acquiring specialist Cleanwater1 for an effective purchase price of around USD 452 million. The acquisition brings Veralto additional expertise in water disinfection and solids treatment, as well as direct access to a base of around 25,000 already installed systems. The transaction, which is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, is expected to have a neutral to slightly positive impact on adjusted earnings per share next year.

The company is also advancing its sustainability strategy. The independent organisation “Science Based Targets initiative” recently officially validated the company's near-term climate targets. A key component is greater supply chain involvement. By 2030, 60% of suppliers are expected to have their own science-based emissions targets. In addition, Veralto plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by end customers' use of its products by 61% relative to revenue by 2033. Direct and indirect emissions from its own operations are expected to fall by just under 55% over the same period. In this area, the company has already reported a 22% decline since 2023, largely driven by expanding renewable energy and electrifying its fleet.

Following the announcement, research firm Stifel reaffirmed its Buy recommendation for Veralto shares and maintained its fair value at USD 114. The analysts highlight the group's strong gross margin of 60%, which provides a solid financial basis for such projects. In the second quarter, Veralto exceeded market expectations, posting adjusted earnings of USD 1.11 per share and revenue of USD 1.47 billion.

    Conclusion

Danaher plans to accelerate biotechnology research with artificial intelligence. Veralto is focusing on the growing demand for clean water and expanding its market position through acquisitions. MustGrow Biologics holds enormous potential. The collaboration with Bayer, rising TerraSante™ sales, and planned production expansion could provide considerable tailwinds for the comparatively small company.

Agriculture is in crisis, creating a billion-dollar market that few investors can afford to ignore. Brussels is imposing ever tighter restrictions on chemical crop protection products in Europe, while soils around the world are becoming increasingly depleted. Those still relying on conventional fertilizers today risk falling behind in the long run. Demand is rising for organic crop protection products and fertilizers that deliver high yields while still meeting environmental requirements. Three stocks show how differently investors can profit from the biological revolution in soil health: Bayer, MustGrow Biologics, and K+S.
